    How the hatred began...

Shaun Murphy called Mark Allen “rude and amateurish” after he moaned about the playing conditions at the British Open.

Allen then took to social media, saying: "Anyone taking Murphy's opinions seriously, I seriously question their judgement or quite possibly their sanity, not gonna lie. Anyway, maybe I'll take 3 cues to my next match.

When a fan defender Murphy, the world No3 replied: "You misspelled irrelevant."

    Feud reignited

Mark Allen continued to slam Shaun Murphy in a fiery interview.

He told The Mirror: "He said that all players who were involved in the match-fixing thing should never play snooker again, then he's asked on Stephen Lee about a comeback and he said, 'welcome him back with open now he's served his time,' so which is it?

"At least if you're going to be opinionated, stick to your guns. Don't chop and change depending whenever it suits or depending on what role you're in in the game."

Allen blasts Murphy in war of words

Mark Allen has reignited his feud with Shaun Murphy after the Northern Irishman was labelled "rude and amateurish" by the ex-world champion.

The comments came in September after Allen complained about the conditions during the British Open.

Allen told The Mirror: "I think he's changed a bit in my view if I'm honest.

"Some of the things he said just made no sense to me to the extent that some of the things he said recently are completely the opposite of what he's said in the past.

"At least if you're going to speak rubbish, speak rubbish consistently - don't change your tune."

    Selby's thoughts

I played well to go 3-0 then I misjudged a red in the next frame and that was probably the turning point of the match.

"If I had gone 4-0 I would've broken the back of the match, but Jack played well and I know he is capable of that. When his mind is right, he is capable of beating anyone.

"I feel my game is OK and I'm losing to great players."

  • Lisowski reaction

    It's all a bit of a blur.

"I played well, good safety and good scoring. Wherever I go I play quite risky snooker so the crowd always wants to see something and make a game of it.

"There's something about the crowd at York. It's really grown here and it's turned into an incredible tournament and the crowd are a part of that."

    Carter reaction

Ali Carter is into the last-16 with a fairly comfortable win over Ryan Day 6-4.

It's all about getting a win.

"Wins have been hard to come by of late and it has zapped my confidence. It was hard work from start to finish.

"I found the table was quite heavy and to screw back was quite different, but you have to play on whatever the table is like.

"I've had some good times here, but mostly terrible ones. I was 8-4 up in the [2012] semi-finals against Shaun Murphy and that went wrong 9-8 and I've not had too much success since then.

"Everything is so dependent on doing well in the big ranking events. I've not had a good run here for a long time so let's hope it leads to one this year."

    A second seed is out!

Now it's the turn of 13th seed Si Jiahui, who falls to fellow Chinese player Wu Yize.

It ended 6-4 in a very tight affair.

    Liskowski wins

    And that's it!

Liskowski has won 6-4 - it's a career defining victory for him.

Selby left the last red on, and then immediately went to shake his opponent's hand.

That's a surprise, given how well Selby played the first three legs.

    Selby 4-5 Liskowski (26-69)

It's getting tricky for Selby now.

He needs two snookers to avoid forcing a re-spotted black.

That's because Liskowski pots a brilliant red, followed by a blue. He's on the brink.

    It's getting closer

Wu now leads 5-3 against Si.

The 13th seed is in danger of going out.

Should Selby go out too, that'll be two seeds out tonight. That's a shocker.

    Selby 4-5 Liskowski

    Brilliant from Liskowski!

Selby needing a snooker overplays the yellow and leaves the green open.

Liskowski sinks it, then follows that with a brown and blue.

He's one frame away from knocking Selby out.

    Selby 4-4 Liskowski (10-12)

A slow start to frame nine.

Snookers, near misses, but it might be Liskowski who has the chance.

As Selby misses a long red, Liskowski returns with a nice table to look at.

He can make him pay here.

    Meanwhile...

Wu now leads 4-1 against Si.

He took the first frame after the mid session interval and appears to be in the driving seat.

    Selby 4-4 Liskowski

Selby took frame seven when Liskowski failed to secure a snooker and conceded - some 62 behind.

But it's a different story in frame eight.

After 30 minutes of failing to pot a ball, Liskowski produces a brilliant break of 70 to steal the frame.

    We're level again.

    Selby 3-3 Liskowski

Selby's game in the last three frames hasn't been anything like his first three frames.

He's missing some reds with some frequency.

It took him an age to pot his first red, and Liskowski ends up with an even century.

    Selby 3-2 Lisowski

    And what's this?

After Selby misses an easy red, Lisowski makes him pay. A red is sunk, as is a difficult green with the rest, and it opened up for him.

A break of 63 and he's now within one of Selby.

    Selby 3-1 Lisowski

Lisowski stays in the game with that frame.

But Selby's a jaw away from stealing it from Lisowski, as it bounces out.

Liskowski returns to pot red and black to seal it 63-32.

    On the other table

In the match of the big potters it's Wu who is racing head.

Two up already, and cruising in the third frame.

2-0 lead, probably set to be three.

    Selby 3-0 Lisowski

    Take a bow, Selby.

He has just recorded the highest break of the tournament so far.

    This time, a majestic 136.

Selby is purring. Lisowski is reeling.

    Selby 2-0 Lisowski

Selby's break of 61 comes to an end when he loses position on red.

He was just about to cross the finish line there.

However, Lisowski leaves a red over the bottom left pocket - and Selby duly obliges to polish it off.

    Frame over.

    Selby 1-0 Lisowski (14-6)

Selby manages to get an angle on a tight red, and can build a huge lead here and take the frame.

Before that, though, it was a tight affair with plenty of safety.

No one gave anyone an inch of a chance, until Lisowski's failed plant gave his opp9npeont an opportunity.

    Selby 1-0 Lisowski

A brilliant, brilliant break from Mark Selby.

Potentially the only disappointment might have been 137 was available.

A routine miss on the blue, but that doesn't matter.

A 119 break is commendable. What a way to start.

    Allen's 'depressing' performance

Mark Allen has called his own form "depressing" after a disappointingly flat performance against Jackson Page.

Allen laboured to a 6-4 win, and afterwards told the BBC: "It’s actually quite depressing to be honest, the way I’m playing at the minute.

“It’s not much fun. I’m trying so hard and I just can’t play. I’ve always backed myself under pressure but there’s something technical that’s not right because I’m missing so many easy balls.

“It’s hard to take any positives out of that, other than the fact that I got six frames.

“I’ve been trying so hard the last few months and it’s really getting me down because things are really good at the minute in my life and snooker’s just awful. Absolutely awful.

“It is all confidence. I know that two or three months ago I was the number one player in the world but you’re only as good as your last result and I just feel like I’m not playing well enough right now.”
