It tries to rip off better RPGs and slaps math problems on them.
The character designs are just horrible, in terms of how they're animated.
Absolutely abysmal difficulty. If you get a wrong answer, it will just give you a message saying "oops" and let the enemy attack you DIRECTLY afterward. That’s like punishing someone who didn’t know the answer without at least a good hint on the question!
False advertising: In the trailer, it says that the math problems are fantastic, but the game just gives you whatever it wants. Even math problems that are harder for 1st graders to answer, but easy for a 3rd grader and upper. The advertising also shows it to be "the new Khan Academy." In one review, a parent had a kid who did 5th-grade math and he came to his dad crying because it gave him problems that were not easy for 5th graders. The hints for all math problems tend to be either Sherlock easy or downright cryptic, making math even worse to learn than learning it the traditional way. Another thing: The art style for the log-in/sign-up screen is pretty good compared to the in-game art style. Too bad it is misleading.
The chibi art style in-game looks awful, and cringe-worthily ugly and ends up looking like an even worse-looking version of Pokémon or Digimon. Even worse, some people who asked why got the lame excuse of it running "faster for iPads". The fact is that the art style looks worse as of 2020. Not to mention, some pets had the artstyle change while others were left alone, resulting in the two styles clashing.
The villain in this game is really bland, and unoriginal. The Puppet Master tries to mind control everyone, so he stops everyone from learning. Bruh! He is also a weak cartoon villain who passes up nearly every chance to fight the player.
The story rips of basically every educational game and the Sonic franchise.
Loud and obnoxious voice acting with Slurpy being the worst as he yells or talks in a loud tone for everything he says.
You can't do most things without a membership. It gives you a limit on the number of pets you give, doesn't let you evolve pets, you get only ONE chest while you're exploring each world, and you get stupid-looking clothes. This is why many parents complained about this, as it can urge children to pay $6-$10 per month for a membership. In other words, it wants children to cave in to microtransactions.
It makes your character look like a dummy who doesn't know what math is.
Not to mention, it also rips off Club Penguin since you get to play minigames, you use your mouse to click to make the player walk, have a pet, having a membership, wearing outfits, making you log on every time you go on the website, meet online, be friends with others, design your house, buy decorations, do achievements. In other words, it's Club Penguin but with math.
The emotes are pandering, and mostly come off as pretty stupid.
The music is stolen from various games, not like it was very good to begin with.
It has hackers, making it a very unsafe website.
When a character uses an attack they don't even have their own animation, adding insult to injury is that your character just stays there in the same spot/position without even moving a single muscle during the whole battle, which is extremely lazy.
The game tries to be hip and edgy especially in recent updates, there's even a dabbing emote (although limited to members), which is r/fellowkids worthy.
The locations look quite generic and are cliche fantasy fare such as "lava world" and "water world".
The combat interface is bad. Turns take a long time to finish, save for one used by a villain, there are no unique attacks in the entire game, meaning all weapons do the same things, enemies are always several levels below the player, and bosses aren't much harder than everyday enemies!
Speaking of common enemies, areas are littered with common enemies who engage the player when they get close, so the player is constantly trying to avoid them, which is frustrating because the fights take so long.
The boss battles are nothing special.
Bad game design and glitches. For example, there is a pedestal you have to be at Level 25 to use, but it doesn't work if you are already at or above level 25, and two areas of the map are only available when playing from home, but the player can easily bypass this just by saying they're playing from home, there is nothing to check this! In fact, the game is unfinished, as you can’t beat it. The last story update was 2 years ago.
Some elements of the game's seasonal events may be considered socially sectarian or even racist.
On the teacher’s UI, the time you play the game is wrong. Turns out, it counts the time battling monsters, rather than log in- log out like other programs.
The art style used to look good, but it was ruined by new updates.
The toys feature is inaccessible to people who don't want to waste money and commercialized.
