2016 – The Curse is Broken

In 2016, Sam Sianis successfully removed the Curse placed on the Cubs by his Uncle Billy “Goat” Sianis putting an end to their 108 year World Series drought. The Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in one of the greatest World Series games of all time.

As of January 2024, Charlie Root leaded the ranking of the Chicago Cubs all-time wins leaders, having won a total of 201 games throughout his career. Root was followed within this ranking by Mordecai Brown with a total of 188 games won.

August 18 the Cubs lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 2–1 in a 21-inning contest, the longest game ever played at Wrigley Field and in Cubs history (by time). The game had been suspended due to darkness at the end of the 17th inning the previous afternoon. The game lasted six hours and ten minutes.
