Much like my homemade chunky chicken noodle soup, this copycat version is wholesome and delicious, full of nourishing chicken, tender pasta, and hearty veggies.

This winter staple is perfect to warm up on chilly nights. I especially love this chicken soup recipe because it has a simple ingredient list and is on the table in under 1 hour.

Not only is the soup easy to whip up, but it also takes very little prep and makes your whole house smell delicious. Your entire family will love it!

  • Noodles: Chick Fil A uses an uncommon noodle called mafalda corta, but any pasta will work. Egg noodles, macaroni, wheels, rotini, etc. are all good choices.

  • Onion: Red, white, yellow, or sweet – any onion variety works excellently here.
  • Minced garlic provides great aroma. Feel free to use garlic powder instead of garlic cloves; simply add it with the broth.
  • Olive oil to sauté the veggies. Any light-tasting oil will work. Suggested substitutions are avocado oil, canola oil, and butter.
  • Chicken broth: Homemade or store-bought, low-sodium chicken broth or chicken stock is perfect.
  • Better than Bouillon is my secret ingredient in this easy chicken noodle soup. It gives the dish rich flavor and makes it taste exactly like Chick Fil A. You can use any chicken base, but I have the best results with this roasted chicken base.
  • Salt + pepper enhance the soup’s flavor.
Can I use bouillon cubes?

Of course! If you don’t have Better than Bouillon, chicken bouillon cubes will do just fine. They give the soup a perfectly seasoned, umami flavor. You need 2 to 3 cubes for this recipe.

  • In a large stock pot or Dutch oven, combine the olive oil, carrots, celery, onion, and minced garlic.
  • Cook uncovered over medium heat, occasionally stirring, until the onions are translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

#2: Add broth & chicken

  • After the veggies are cooked, pour the chicken broth and better than bouillon into the pot and stir to combine.
  • Next, place the chicken breast in the pot and season with salt and pepper.
  • Cover the pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Once the soup reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Leave the pot covered.

#3: Shred chicken

  • Once the chicken is cooked and tender, it can easily be shredded. Transfer the chicken breast onto a cutting board and shred it with 2 forks into bite-sized pieces.

  • Cut vegetables in the same size: Doing so ensures the carrots and celery are ready at the same time.
  • Adjust consistency: You can add more or less chicken and noodles, for a chunkier or brothier soup. The recipe amounts produce what I think is closest to the texture of Chick Fil A chicken soup.
  • Simmer the soup: Boiling the chicken can make it rubbery, so keep the soup on a simmer after adding the chicken.
  • Taste-test: After your soup has cooked, give it a taste. You can adjust the seasonings at this point. Feel free to add more salt, pepper, garlic, or herbs like parsley, thyme, or oregano to suit your preferences.
  • Make-ahead: If you plan to prepare the soup ahead of time, cook and store the noodles separately. Stir 2 tbsp olive oil into the noodles to prevent sticking and store in an airtight container in the fridge. When it’s time to serve, heat the soup and stir in the pasta.
